Students also spend a great deal of time learning to sing music at sight. Students are given the opportunity to participate various honor choirs, All-State, festivals, and competitions around the state and throughout the country.
Concert Choir is the top auditioned choir at Hueytown. It is made up of boys and girls in grades 10-12. Students are expected to already have some skills to produce an appropriate and healthy vocal sound. Concert choir students are more advanced in singing music at sight. These students sing more difficult pieces designed to increase their musicality while teaching them to sing together as well as rehearsed ensemble. These students also learn the skills to evaluate performances and to analyze the music they are singing. Concert choir members frequently give concerts for different community groups as well as singing for various nursing homes and giving other volunteer concerts. Like mixed choir, these students are given multiple opportunities to participate in festivals, honor choirs, and All-State.
